The newly discovered Phragmipedium

NO.6 Phrag. popowii

 150118

There is some ongoing question about the correct name of the plant designated as Phragmipedium popowii or Phragmipedium humboldtii. The question was resolved in an article published in 2004 in Orquideologia. There Dr. Braem and Sandy Ohlund clearly and detailed explained that Phragmipedium humboldtii was not a valid entity because Cypripedium humboldtii (the basionym) was never published. Furthermore, Dr. Braem once more clarified the issue in an article published in the Australian Orchid Review and the Orchid Digest, in the spring of 2014. About Phragipedium warszewiczianum, the issue was similar to Phragmipedium humboldtii. Finally, He, Ohlund and Quene named and described the plant as Phragmipedium popowii instead of Phragipedium warszewiczianum or humboldtii in Richardiana(2004).
