The newly discovered Phragmipedium

NO.2@Phrag. christiansenianum 010423

@A new species of Phragmipedium was described by Mr. Olaf Gruss in Die Orchidee, 52(1):76,2001.

Introduced from Columbia over 10 years abd classified as Phragmipedium lomgifolium, some of the specimens had a different appearance and different flowers. Hans Chritiansen propergated the species, which was thought to be a natural hybrid of Himantopetalum and Longifolium, form seed. The progeny was identical to the parent plants and to each other, thus the theory of it being a hybrid was disproved, and it is intact a new species.
