Orchid Friends in the World

No.1@Peter@iPolandj

I have received a letter from Peter, Poland, Chopin's country. It looks very difiicult to grow orchids in the country. And also, it is very difficult to get orchrds. He import them from France , Germany, UK, Holland. I'll show you the pictures of Paphiopedilums and Cypripedium that he grows in Poland. The comments from him is as follows.

All my paphs are widowsill grown. Window has east aspect, so I prefer warmth tolerant species. These of Cochlopetalum group I find easiest to grow and flower, even the highest elevated species in this group - P.victoria-mariae is flowering under my conditions. They tolerate if not appreciate rather hard municipal water of pH 7.5 I use for watering. On the other hand epiphytic species - P.lowii suffers from leaf tip dieback (too much minerals dissolved and too high pH I suppose), I gave him a new kind of substrate with lower pH, I hope it will be helpful. P.glanduliferum seems to be most susceptible to bacterial problems expecially during dull winter days, I have lost two of them. I have one good grown clump of releated species - P. wilhelminiae. It has never flowered for me so anysuggestions would be appreciated.
