 The very interesting new species was discovered from Laos and from northern Vietnam, and described as Paphiopedilum canhii by Leonid V. Averyanov, Olaf Gruss, Canh Chu Xuan, Loc Phan Ke, Dang Bui and Hiep Nguyen Tien in ORCHID May 2010 at the first time for this new species. After that, Dr. Averyanov et al published other 2 articles about paphiopedilum canhii in .Sliper Orchids by Sandy Ohlund as follows

 The plant has 3 ~ 5 leaves, 5~7 cm long, distinctly tessellated light and darker green above. Inflorescence erect, one-flowered; peduncle 6–10 cm long. Flowers 6~8 cm across, Dosal sepal 2~3 cm long, 1.5 ~ 1.8 cm wide, Petal 3~ 4 cm long, 0.5 ~ 0.7 cm wide at the base. Staminode is very large 1.2 ~1.6 cm long, 0.6~0.8 cm wide. Paphiopedilum canhii grows on rocky limestone at elevations about 1500 m above sea level. They like in shady places at the base of vertical cliffs. The flower season is March and April.

NO. 58-2 Paphiopedilum canhii var. funingense
 
 A new variety of Paphiopedilum canhii was found from southeastern Yunnann, China and discribed as Paphiopedilum canhii var. funingense by Z. J. LIU and L.J. CHEN. The flower looks like Paphiopedilum canhii excepy the color of flower.
