There was an orchid show on November 13 and 14 in Oakland, CA. Oakland is located on the east side of the San Francisco Bay. The show was a small one put up by the Oakland Orchid Society. Here, some aspects of the show will be introduced. This show took place inside the city park next to a lake.

Form Miss Samantha Kha

I live in the heart of Silicon Valley (San Jose, CA). I started growing orchids about three years ago. I quickly decided Paphiopedilum is my favorite type of orchids, especially the species. Today, I have over 1000 plants in my collection with Paph and Phrag consist of over 90% of my collection. I manage to keep all these beauties in my small 10 feet x 10 feet greenhouse. Like any hobbyist, I can't resist other types of orchids. I have Phalaenopsis, Cattleya, Phragmipedium, Dendrobium, etc. in my collection. It's amazing how at times, I would get rid of everything that is not a Paph or Phrag and they somehow manage to sneak back into my collection. My goal is to one day have a complete collection of Paphiopedilum and Phragmipedium species and their variations. I came pretty close to achieving this goal, but the newly discovered Paph species in Asia are making this an ever-endless quest.

These are some display in the show.
