A new natural hybrid, Paph. x areeanum was described by Mr. Olaf Gruss in Die Orchidee 52 (5), 645, 2001. This plant was discovered by Mr. Aree Petchleung in the Province Guangxi, China. The species name was associated with his honor. This plant is considered as a natural hybrid between Paph. barbigerum and villosum
