I believe there is some information on treating Glomerella cincta at your web site. However I cannot read Japanese and I wonder if you could tell me how it is treated. It appears as though someone is applying a paste of sorts to a leave. Any information will be greatly appreciated.
I believe I may have this fungus on a few of my Paph. rothschildianums. Sincerely.
|Ａ：I'll translate some part concerning with Glomerella cincta from the description of Paphs' pests and disease. Because it is not translated in English.|
The point rot disease of leaves by fungi, Glomerella cincta
This disease is caused by a kind of fungi, Glomerella cincta. The fungi will break into leaves from the point whole of them. The specific feature of this disease is the symptom would be started at the top of leaves. The symptom, brownish or dark brownish, affected part will going down to the basal part of the leaves. The speed is very late and it takes about one month for a few cm development sometimes. The affected part is not dry and the symptom from the top to the end on leaves would be in the same basically. Sometimes, the developing area would be pale color and make marks like lines. After a few months, some symptom would begin to dry step by step. But the speed is late and almost of growers would be leave the symptom sometimes. If the affected part would arrive at the basal center, this disease never be cured. After some interval, the same symptom would be on another leave one by one. The dead leaves would not fall easily. It looks like not so big damage for the plant, we believe. But in truth, the damage would be bigger according to the development. When the plant would lose over half of their leaves, it looks unhealthy and will be die in future. So, when you find out this symptom, you had better care as fast as possible as follows.
The typical symptom by Glomerella cincta. Although the affected area are developing, the structure of leave is firm.
The affected area looks like stopping but it is developing so slowly in truth. Sometimes, the area would be dry like this.
The care for this disease
Basically, you cut off the part of disease including about 1 inch's healthy part and apply the paste of medicine on the open wound. Around the open wound, spores are contaminated so long time, you have to apply medicine for a few times at least.
In the case of above and the similar symptom on the young seedlings from flask.
Basically the speed of enveloping of this disease is very late. But when you find the symptom, you had better caring the leaves as fast as possible. I mean you have to care at the time. The faster, the easier the leaves recover. You can do it as the following figure( sorry in Japanese only ).
In this case, the medicine for care is Benlate , Banrot or Maneb Daisen
will be made in paste and apply the paste on the open wound. Don' care about the dilution on the label of he medicine.
In a small container, you take appropriate volume of medicine and make paste with a small amount of water. By a paint brush, you apply the paste, as the left photo.
In case of young seedlings just after deflasking will be infected by the similar disease. Sometimes, we see the seedlings that are turn to brown on the top of leaves but it is not the disease. It is dependent on the nutrient problems, I guess. But just after deflasking, the wound must be infected by some infectious micro organism. So, you had better caring the case in the same as this procedures.
You cut off the some part of leaves from the top to healthy area about 1 inch and apply the paste of medicine on the open wound,. If you succeeded the caring, the open wound will not change to turn to brown anymore.
In case of The point rot disease, you can treat in the same procedure.as above.
But if you missed the procedure, the wound will be turn to brown and the area is going to increase. In this case, you have to take the same procedure again. It is caused by you did not cut enough area.
